Do you know that the residue from soya milk making is everything but waste?

There are three most common ways to make use of soya residue:

1.   Soya cake. In China people cook various dishes using soya residue as an ingredient. But if you don’t fancy stir fry, you can make a soya cake with it.

Tips: You can use the residue instead of tofu in many baking recipes.

2.    Soya facial mask. Mix the residue with an egg white, with drops of lavender essential oil. When it thickens, brush on your face. This soya mask can deep cleanse your skin and remove dirt, excess oil, and impurities.

3.    Soya residue is ideal plant food. Just pour it to your compost bin if you have one, or water the plants with diluted residue. You will find that this improves soil greatly and plants love it.

Soya cake

Ingredients                                                                  

a. ½ onion, finely chopped

b. 3 cloves of garlic, crushed

c. A bunch of spring onion/chives/coriander, finely chopped

1 egg, beaten

Bread crumbs
Flour

Preparation

Lightly fry ingredients a.b.c in a frying pan with butter/oil.

Heat butter in a saucepan, then add in flour, and then milk. Stir in the fried ingredients. Transfer the mixture into a mixing bowl.

Add soya bean residue to the bowl of mixture.

Shape the cake in your palm, dip in the egg, coat with bread crumbs.

Deep fry for a few seconds until golden brown.

Tips: add red curry paste into the mixture for more aroma.

Soya muffin

Ingredients

a.      soya bean residue

b.      corn meal

Preparation

Mix corn meal into soya bean residue until thick enough to form a shape.

Shape the mixture in palm.

Steam for 20 minutes.

Tips: For a sweet taste add bits of crushed stoned dates.

My garlic has grown really fast since I buried soya pulp under the roots. Have to keep harvesting every week before it gets too tall!
